Website Research

This is gonna be the sizes for the website Home Page
Next step on this is to find my design so i can design the other link pages

Whats going on the Home page

Domain Name
I think my domain name should be, this one is not being used as i can see so it would be nice to just use my name rather than having loads of things not meaning anything.

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing internet connectivity, typically in a data center . Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for other servers located in their data center, called colocation.

So from this i have to find one that's good for me, with the right amount of space,  resalable price and that will give me the name i want... I've had a friend advertise this, as its cheep!! this was given by my old tutor, who is a web designer !!!!aswell as giving me this website to help me start the website.

Title Sequance

After watching the new film, i have really fell in love with this film, I'm so glad that Anna agreed to go along with this idea, i think if we can pull it off we can make this look really good 8D

This is screen shots of the opening title sequence, you get a different pair of shoes for each name, which each pair of shoes do a different dance with feet, as well as body shots but there is no edits with those parts

This is something like i would like to achieve for this project
This is an example of the Old Footloose
This is an example of the New Footloose

This is a very farmer, cowboy style town, i think it would be good if we could get people from Maidstone to do it, it would be amazing to get loads of people to do it, but its finding the people, i think first i will ask people in my class, then maybe as people in the canteen, and if we still need people try town????

Title Sequence

Although we had looked though loads of examples i have to confess i have never noticed them before, or if i did never new they had a purpose so i went through all my DVDs in my room and i found a few that do still have the title sequence or if they don't they where possible at the end of the film.
I have found that in later films there not that common at the beginning, there normally at the end or not at all, i really wanted to look and find once that where found at the beginning like traditional once we looked at, at the lecture

I found these once really interested me the most out of the films i found:

Love Actually - I felt that with this, this was shown like a diary entry, he was talking in the 3rd person, while the film is acting it, the sound made it calm (simple piano) and to summer it up at the end, he said "love is all around"

Wild Target - Brilliant Opening Sequence!  it starts of with soft french music, as the sequence moves on the music get more intense with whats happening on the screen, very little filming on the screen but the use of speech from the  character, and extra shouting adds to the funny and wait of the film and whats gonna happen next ?????

Juno - Shouts out as a teen film when the film starts, it starts of as Juno just walks and shes in a 2D affect, but with the music it creates  a peaceful and  wonderful beginning

Priscilla Queen of the Desert -   original classic film,  opening  scene ,  a man  dressed in drag,  mining to a song about wanting to be free,  and it's all happy and  innocent,  song finishes and you  realise hes just  in a pub singing to drunken men,  coming from dream to reality.  the type, is very glaring and in your face,  a bit over the top, which goes with the film.

The Italian job -  original classic film,   setting the mountain is taking a casual drive in a fast car,  music is calm and quite slow,  typography very 60s, ( only thing I feel with this title sequence is that it's very long)  launch get to the end credits stops,  the car goes into a tunnel,  and then there's a massive  explosion.

A Single Man -   there is a major crash,  where a man is dead on the floor,  the  main character  (Colin  Firth) slowly walks up to the body,  lays down beside him,  kiss is him on the lips  and then suddenly wakes up in bed.  there is no music,  if anything just natural sounds of him walking,  which adds to the  tension of what's going on in the film,   the font is very simple,  and over pretty quickly.

The Chalet Girl -  very funny film!  the title sequence is basically everything that she can do wrong within the stay as the chalet girl,  which is very funny sarcastic music,  the music changes  when  are good things start to happen and finally the perfect music plays when she falls in love and wins the competition.

Woman in Black -   teased music,  very faint.  extra sound is added like a fast ticking sound,   which get your heart beating,  dark backgrounds,  where you are unable to see what's behind you or even in front of you.  and then ever so often you get a small glimpse of the lady.  but never in full detail which makes it,  scary and jumpy.

Footloose - the catchy song of footloose, while the credits are playing there is a big party going on, where there all zoomed in on peoples shoes and body parts, where they can feel the music and really move to it, like dance is apart of them !!

The King's Speech -  the title sequence starts by showing history facts, there is no music it is the sound to start off with,  which is just simply a gentleman speaking  in the radio,  while you hear this you get small clips or zooming of photos of the microphone really talking to the radio.

Sherlock Holmes -  brilliant films,  teabag effect,   starts off with a small part of the film, like it's a random case,   the baddies called by Sherlock,  photos taken for the news,  and that's where it begins with Fun, uplifting tune  plays,  while they play small parts of the film in a teabag  affect as well as a pen and ink,  showing the  fonts in a very serif script look.

Legend of the Guardian  - simple song, but with each edit had its own little animation scene, the owls would do different scenes from the film, but its done out of some paper shadow texture, which is quite moving, finding your self to watch it all

Labyrinth,  the edits are shown in a simple plain font (white)  while in the background there is an effect,  in between a magical look or a hallucination,  slowly and owl outline flies in and disappears within each edit change,  working slowly into the film.  music sung by David Bowie.

Tangled -   before the film actually starts there is a beginning scene,  which shows you how she gets into the state of being kidnapped and living with and evil person who she calls mum that's not, her birth mum.  then the film starts and it goes into a into this big room where she sing and its all up beat, the credits fly on with the music.

The Boat that Rocked - starts being filming during the day, where the radio is boring and life is boring, then  as people sleep the rule breakers come out and listen to the fun radio, (the chunter on the radio was added to this to make it more fun and interesting to look at.

Skins - Set for a group of kids, the beginning is fun, different clips from different episodes, mixed with pattern and music, makes it interesting to watch keeping you looking while the credits are on

Torchwood -  sci-fi music giving it a sort of   mystery affect, showing different parts in wales where things happen, from different highs, makes it look interesting

Mrs Brown's Boys - although very short, funny. the music is fun and simple, as the Characters puts pictures of the other  characters on the washing line, and then she turns around laughs and then the episode begins, sound boring and simple but its funny.

Family Guy - Brilliant intro, where the song is so catchy, you find your self singing along with it, very much like "The Big Bang theory" the music is so catchy u just have to sing along,  also the characters make  it so much,  he soon begin to know each person's character within the title sequence  before the episode.

Miranda -  stop motion effect of when she was little.  she moves towards the camera with  pictures of her when she was little,  to when she was growing up.  nurse though movement with the  upbeat of the music  makes the title sequence  unforgettable.

so from doing my only search, and talking to  Anna, we have chosen me few films that we think would really work for our title sequence,  them being:

Miranda - like the stop  motion effect
Juno -  the hand drawn affect
Sherlock  Holme's -  teabag and ink effects
Footloose -  free  to fill the music.
Legands of the Guardian - paper shadow affect

these were the main ones that we thought were really good and ones that we could achieve, although a lot of the hand drawing would've been hard work and one that I can see is possible is the footloose. But how we are going to do it is a different question!!!

Leaflet project

After putting all 3 designs on Facebook and Twitter loads have commented and also liked the design.

On Facebook i put on images showing different parts of the leaflet and then told them to choose which one why liked the most or more likely pick up and read

Megan (my course) liked design 3 - no improvements
Ben (my course) liked design 3 - the front text could be made bigger but thats me just trying to find u an improvement to make
Jake Bussell (illustration 1y) liked design 3 - no improvements
Emma Write (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements
Poppy (friend) 1 is eye catching, 2 has to many colours and 3 is awesome
Natalie (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements
Roseanne (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements
Cloe Ashtari (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements
Andy (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements
Katie (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements

Julio (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements
Rio (illustration 1y) liked design 3 - no improvements
Aaron (my course) liked design 3 - no improvements
Kimaya (friend) liked design 3 - no improvements

Also seeing people in person, have looked at the design and have gone straight to design 3
So people have had a chance to look at all the designs and have made it smaller into 3 designs which i then have improved and then shown again, although people still love the other designs Design 3 the yellow, black and white design, i fell as well as every one else stands up to the brief set and my own brief of sticking with the Swiss Design, I'm fully happy with my outcome!

Leaflet project

Design 3

Standing up

Im still thinking this one for my final, with the other 2 i have had cons with, with this design i havn't had any problems, or bad thoughts, the colours work, the text is broken up so you can read it properly and the images are in the same box as the text so you can tell which one its with.
But im still going to ask peoples opinion on my design to make sure its as good as it can be !

Leaflet project

Design 2

Standing up

I do still like this design but i do still fill that i have gone off the path of Swiss Design ??

Leaflet project

Design 1

Standing up
I printed it out to see what it would look like
as i thought it might where its bigger,be planner than i wanted it to be, now its been printed to the right size not sure i like it ??? differently not sure for a final but i will see when i ask peoples opinion.

Leaflet project

Final 3 Designs

Design 1 -So from the final 3 designs being picked i wanted to start again a replace it perfectly, exactly where i wanted it.....
After placing the type where i wanted it, the images where slightly more diffcult to place, i found it was not about them all being in a straight line it was just about fitting them all in, in a way i like the rapidness where there not all in line.
But is this design boring still, i know the Swiss Design is simple but is this simple and a bit boring ????

Design 2 - I again stripped the design to its basic form ...
placing the type in and made the type, properly left or right alined, which ment i didn't have (-) at the end of half the word, with the est underneath the line. Adding the images was hard for this design until i thought about just putting them at the bottom, this also ment i could put all the images in, and they where in the column was in the right text.
i do like this design but where there is so many colours, i feel that it has developed to far, although i like it, i think i have gone off the path of Swiss Design?????
Design 3- With this design i found was most fun, starting of again by stripping of text
i found when i came to putting the text in again, was a matter of making the text slightly smaller so i could fit the text into the small boxs, and so i could fit the images in properly. i couldn't fit all the images in but i also thought it didn't need an image for each artist description
i found once i added the images in i fell in love with this design.

There are pros and cons for each design, so from this i can't pick a final i need to create the other side of it to make it into a leaflet, instead of a poster which is what is it at the moment.

Leaflet project

The main ideas

First Idea
Within this design i used the columns to create structure to the type, i didn't want to center it all so i put it at an angle. This is good as it is, but the brief says we have to have images, this would make it difficult to place on the page. (Design 1)

Second Idea
With this design i looked at an image i found on the internet, just to grab ideas, looking at the design i created my own design, then within that i placed the type where it would fit and make it look interesting, this still gave me space to place pictures but not for all of the artists. (Design 2)

Third Idea
Looking at Swiss Design, a lot of things where red, so i thought i would try just a simple red background, with the type. i found once i had done this, it would be to bold and illegible for you to read. (Design 3)

I tried the same design in blue and found it much better, easyer to read, and very simple. (Design 4)
Fourth Idea
Looking at another layout design on the internet i designed again to make my own vertion, but i found with this is where the lines where placed in a certain way, i found the text hard to place without having to make it really illegible. (Design 5)
My final design
i wanted to try something in thin columns, from looking at Swiss Design, there is a lot of columns, originally there was no colour just black background and white text, i thought i would try it with colour, which i really like. (Design 6)
From talking to a few people on my course, and asking there opinion on my work so far, i found, they had the same views as me, that Designs 1,3,5 where in need of improvements, or are not 100% suitable to the project, where Designs 2,4,6 where good enough designs to be improved and see if i could improve them enough to become a final outcome.

Leaflet project

After the first half of this project working with grids and Swiss Design, i felt i never got the full interest withing the Swiss Design, i felt that i really wanted to carry it on, from going to creating layouts that where interesting that we had to work out and make interesting, just to make a leaflet, which in my opinion have always found boring, they have simple structure, nothing that really grabs you to read it

hopefully within my research i will be able to come up with a design, unlike normal leaflet and make something interesting, something u will want to pick up, and read because it looks interesting.

Within Swiss Design, lies many talented designer, But a few have really court my eye:

-Max Miedinger was a swiss typeface designer, he was famous for creating Helvetica in 1957. Marketed as a symbol of cutting edge swiss technology, even in today's society within graphic design we use helvetica and respect it as a typeface.
I'm not going to be the last person to say it but Helvetica is a magical typeface and my personal favorite, i have found thought out the years of studying gtraphic design, that my work always falls back to Helvetica!

-Le Corbusier, was widely acclaimed as the most influential of the 20th century, was also a celebrated thinker, writer and artist. His architecture and radical ideas for reinventing modern living, from private villas to large-scale social housing to utopian urban plans, still resonate today.
I came across Le Corbusier work, and i became interested on how much it was influenced by Swiss Design, the one thing i understand within Swiss Design is that they work within simple shapes, making in simple but still visually interesting, all that is used here is circles, squares and rectangles.

-Josef Muller-Brockman, was a swiss designer and teacher, throughout out his years he studied architecture, design and history of art, exhibition design and photography. In 1966 he was appointed European design consultant of IBM. He was well known for his simple design, clear use of typography, shapes and colour, which inspired many of the 21st century.
When i was looking for the the first project i came across Muller-Brockman, which i found worked within grids and shapes, very much like we where asked to do. i found his work very interesting, i will be inspired by him while i do my leaflet design.

-Adrian Frutiger, was a typeface designer, influenced the influenced of digital typography, he became well know for creating the typefaces Univers and Frutiger.
I came across Adrian Frutiger at collage, where we did a project where we was asked to design out own type, i found Adrian Frutiger a massive help, within looking at his work, looking at the grid lines to make limitations u can make a defined typefaces.

Using the type provided and my research into the artist and there artwork, i will try layout out the type on a design, then after asking piers opinions i will improve them further and create the front cover to go with it.
