Julio Del Castillo Vivero-photographer

Julio Del Castillo Vivero

Julio Del Castillo Vivero is a Spanish Photographer who is a freelance photography in the UK.

After meeting Julio and getting to know him and his work, I became passionate with his photos in ways that i could use him as a roll model for my photos

This is my version of Julio's work, taking into the account of colour contrast, a point of view (what a person looks at the most) and negative space

ESSAY CHOICES

1. WHAT IS A SIGN? Using a range of examples of signs, illustrate and explain the difference between straightforward signs(denotation), like road-signs and pictograms, and more complex signs that use metaphors and allusion (connotation) such as some logos and album covers.

2. WHAT IS STYLE? Different styles mean different audiences and different ways of addressing them. Consider how a particular graphic design style (either current or from the past) connects with an audience.

3. WORDS AS IMAGES. Explore some examples of graphic design, where words are used to make pictures, or visually act out the meanings they carry. These examples should come from letterpress and digital printing. Discuss and compare their effects

Theses are the 3 essay questions we can choose from but the proper question is what one to choose. I have read and analyzed them and i have illuminated number 2 as i have done an essay like it before and there for i wouldn't have much research to come up with and to make the essay interesting and challenging.
Speaking to Anne about the essay i brought up the question of "does it have to be relevant to the project we have just done" - Anne replying no but it would make it easyer for you, you have ur project to back up ur essay and the other way round for ur project

But me personally i really ant to do something different to my project to make it a fresh start, to exsplore and learn more things so im more drawn towards the question 3
I may do some research into the question and decide later!

What is Graphic Design

we where asked what is Graphic Design

i replied saying 'its a creative process used to advertise!"

Cubism Project

After sitting down as a group and talking about our own ideas, we soon came up with a design with a range of all our ideas together we had 2 walls to work with and above our heads too

IMAGE ABOVE-all we had to start of with was a red straight line on one wall, which we all agreed we wanted to distal and make cubist looking. In the middle of the line we are sticking a 3D shape which you will have to look inside it to read a cubist quote (quote found when we did our presentation on cubism). below that there will be loads of cubist shapes (3D) made out of mesh and painted in muddy earthy colours, above will be a guitar in a cubist style and a cube is a detailed way, if u look at it straight on it will be fine but if you look at it at an angle it will be distilledIMAGE ABOVE -And on the other wall we have a font saying cubism out of paper leaflets holders and all around it we have distalled images so they just look like nothing in a cubist way, but when you look close you will realize they are loads of random images.

Mapping Project

Follow on from the summer project, we where asked to map out findings
ive come up with the idea of mapping my bed room in detail and show lines for things i like and dislike (the higher the line the more i like it, the lower the more i hate it)
i really wanted to keep most of the things in the room similar to what they are in the room!

This is what i have so far:

Once i have finished this i will cut it so its equal white space on both sides on the map, and using a key, (which will be somewhere in the white space) will show the good and the bad in different colours.
i love the amount of detail im going in to for this project, i have also found it interesting to work with different media in this project (like: watercolours, acrylics, gouache, pastels, oil pastels and even eye blusher, i have found that makeup also adds a rather interesting tone to my work, i used it mainly for the wood affect on the door.

Group 'ism' Project

Cubism

Cubism was a movement that started in the 20th century, brought on my Pablo Picasso and then followed on by Georges Braque, It revolutionized european painting and sculpture and inspired related movements in music, literature and in architecture. The first branch of cubism, known as Analytic Cubism, was both radical and influential as a short but highly significant art movement between 1907 and 1911 in France. In its second phase, Synthetic Cubism, the movement spread and remained vital until around 1919, when the Surrealist movement gained popularity.

Even today we are influenced by cubism, the way we abstract our buildings and furniture not only in images, the Swedish are very well known for abstracting there furniture, making it seam modern, something new, no one has ever seen before but when have just made things more abstract, places like Ikea which is a Swedish shop that you can find all over the world.

Chris Howl, clame to fame!

Mini Project - Paper!

We had an afternoon which we had to make something interesting out of something simple like....... plain, A4, white paper!

We where all split into groups and given a media to work with.

Lucky for us we got a ....... CAMERA !!!!!! wooooo!

Descusing as we picked up the camera and the paper, we where edvised to start outside, on the way we came up with ideas which found to be hard with a single shot, but better with an mini animation.

Before we started we came up with ideas that we could use to make these storys interesting
catergorys where created :

-Trees!
-Origami plains !
-Insects !
-Fortune teller !
- MURDER, but who did it and how did it happen, who knows ??????
-Fortune teller blending in!
- Epic shots of the Janitor mowing the lorn lol
- Fortune teller coming to life and being hungry : 3
- The End xxx

STARTING UCA Maistone

I found out 3 weeks ago that we has a summer project, (at least it wasn't so last minute)
My project was to explore and investigate my favourite place>

So after a long think and then eliminating the once that could be a possibility leaving me with my Bedroom, which was logic as i have made my room my own, its unique to me, i very much doubt that people have a union jack flag painted on there wall and pillows with the flag.
So anyway may project is about home, i explored my personal thoughts around my home, as well as places i like to go the most in the house and i always ended up in my bedroom where all my favourite DVDs are and where my bed is, my hamster, my clothes, my art equipment, my laptop and everything that has always meant something to me.
So when it came to moving in to my new flat, i really wanted to make it special, personal to me as i made my bedroom back home, it took to car loads but i final got all my stuff over to the halls and unpacked, and now it feels like I'm at home again, .............. sep without the moaning parents!

Lets Start Again!!!!!

A New year so lets start again, and properly this time lol

OK, ....This year, I have moved into halls so i can stay close to uni. I am studying a BA Hon- graphic design at maidstone, and for the next 3 years I'm going to work as harder than I ever have in my life. starting today...... so if I do slack, I give you permission to slap me .... gently 8D

My Statment

Section 1
This year my studies have been focused on illustration and graphic design, artists such as Jason Polan, an illustrator who works in black pen and ink and David Carson, who works with typography in an avant garde style, interest me. Over the last year I have learnt a lot of new skills. Without these skills I wouldn’t get a strong visual idea.
I have experimented in a range of media and technique and have improved my skills in illustrations. Using materials that I have never used before as well as my computer skills on Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Having had the experience of going to London in order to draw, research and record the city or even my work within life drawing, these elements have expanded my knowledge around my practice. My aim is to develop my illustration skills in order to become more confident both as an artist and as a person, as i move on higher into university and work. I have always wanted to be an illustrator of children's books and if I succeed in this i will have fulfilled one of my dreams and these skills will help to improve my work. After doing the fanzine project, I really wanted to try the book on a bigger scale and even get it published at the end.

Section 2
For my final major project I have decided to produce and illustrated/graphical book, for children. I used to love listening to my Dad telling me stories when I was a child. He used to make up silly stories and I have always wanted to illustrate them, one in particular (and my favourite) “The Fridge That Was Thrown Away”. The most important thing to me is that the book is illustrated by hand first and then use photoshop to give it that final coloured finish because I like the style of the brightly coloured book. I will be looking into changing my story slightly because one there is only one character in the story and it would make it more fun for me and the readers if i create more and also in my dads story there is no happy ending. I have used computers extensively this year in order to generate my outcomes and although they will still be a very important part of my image generation, i really want to start of with hand drawing the image to try and capture the energy and flow of the work. The illustrative element of this project is vital to me, because of the chance it gives me to express myself before putting them on the computer and editing. My ambition is to make illustrations for books, so I want to use this project to its fullest, to show that i can be as good as I can be. Throughout this project I'm going to experiment with different medias and techniques, for instance, Screen-printing, Dry-point and watercolors, approaches that I wish to explore more fully as well as working more broadly in colour. All of this will lead my work through stages visually which i then will finally enhance the colour making my designs visually stronger and eye catching. I will look at a range of different artists who have influenced me, as well as researching primary and secondary sources. Artists such as Robert Ingpen who creates fantasy illustrations, well known for creating a new illustration for “Alice and Wonderland”, leaving a mysterious pastel affect to his work, or even Dutte Winkelman, who is a student in Rotterdam, I found her by coming across her blog and found her work very intriguing, mainly hand designed illustration, but she improves her work by adding colour in Photoshop. Also, Christina Balit interests me, as her work is very religious. She makes children's illustrations of the bible, the zodiac and self-composed mythical stories. I intend to draw my own fridge and the contents, as well as going to Electrical goods outlets (such as Currys, Comet) and documenting their finest fridges as well as drawing from rubbish sites and kitchens where i can get the style of change. i will be gathering information from a range of kids, I’m going to be asking them questions on there favourite books and on the end result what they think of my book, and combining the research and materials with my designs, will make my work more visually appealing. I am aiming to get this printed professionally but if the book because quite popular i will be finding out if it can be published a larger scale.

Section 3
Throughout this project I am going to monitor my progress as I go along by self evaluation and reflection, as well as an overall evaluation when i have finished, showing the pros and cons of the project and how the book went as a finished product. I will make sure I attend group crits and tutorials throughout to get advice and constructive criticism on the development of my ideas. All of the advice will be kept in my learning journal. I am going to keep two sketchbooks, one holding quick drawings, observations and other people’s views on my work as I go along. I will also have another sketchbook which will hold research into my book, artist research, and media experimentation, as well as developed ideas. I intend my final piece to be a book that is accessible to kids, that they can pick up and read. At my local brownies which i am a volunteer i have promised a print out of the book because it was them who gave me ideas throughout the project to take things out and improve things and once the book is finally done, they said they would give me there opinions.

Journal

I had started this project doing a journal but recently left it on the bus and after asking the bus station office they hadn’t handed it in to because of that I am going to restart a journal that can’t be lost

Summary of what I’ve done so far

I have researched into artists such as Robert Ingpen, Christina Balit Martin O’Neil Jason Polan as well as David Carson and a student Dutte Winkelman

I have also done a range of drawing, which in some places hasn’t been so successful

I started of by going to my local rubbish dump, and asked if I could draw and take a few pictures of the electrical equipment, but I was escorted of the primroses saying I need permission before I do anything, so I sent a letter to Swale Borough Council and am still waiting for a reply to go draw, worse comes to works I will make my own rubbish pile. I also tried Currys, which I soon got chucked out for drawing.

I have also been drawing my kitchen with all my electrical equipment as well and attempting to make characters from that. I have also been

For inspiration have been looking at other kids books, like books I used to read as a child and even contumacy ones of today, I have been asking kids at my local brownies and a few others which I actionably help out at. I have also looked at a few films the main one being ‘Toy Story’, where the idea of toys coming to life, (impossible) I imagined the same idea for my electrical equipment, when people aren’t looking they come to life, they don’t need an energy source really.

I been experimenting with different materials and medias, working out if they work or not, I have finished my inductions so I’m all set in all the print rooms and various other places

The main thing for me to do know is to start putting the story together to and developing that so I can get the whole project together in time.

week 3 - 3D

After the first 2 weeks we started carousel where the 3 week
we had 3D which was very exciting its something I've never
done before, or even had the chance to do, i thoroughly enjoyed it
the task was to design something out of paper (and only paper)
with this project i wanted to make it personal, so i came up with
the idea of a book worm because I'm dyslexic, i have always dreamed
of just reading a book after a book

The show

The show had been up since Monday and already loads of people have been to see it,
i really helped put up the show by mounting and cutting loads of the work, cutting out the name tags, getting the room ready, sorting out the rota, to who goes down to the room, to even sitting in the room all day
i really like the show everything is so brilliant presented, where everything is put together with great consideration; its a shame that we are in a small room where everyone can't see us
as well as having a small room with every ones work.
These are the photos showing the layout of the room

Web design

For my web design i created it by looking at website i found interesting when i done the research
i wanted to make my website simple but affective where on each page it was a simple plain black background but had bright, interesting but affective images where it was the first thing you looked at when the page came up

when it came to doing the web it didn't exactly go to plan when it came to designing the work where the buttons had to be on the same part of the page each time, it was difficult as i wanted to put them in different places each time to make it more interesting and to make you look for it.

i had to change it to the same place each time as it made the page orqurd when it came to putting it on flash

this is how my web turned out in the end

This being the home page, this page i designed
to draw you in to my work some of my best work
went on to this page

This page is 'about me' i basically wrote the
important things about me like what i'm doing
what i have learn over the last 2 years

This is my 'work' page, on this page i wanted
to show some of my best work over the last 2 years
V&A, Sequential drawing, FMP( Chelsea Flower Show
watching words move and my packaging project.

This is my contact page showing the ways you can contact me
i really like this page because of the detail on the image
which toke me 3 and a half hours to do.

please let me know how i can make my web more interesting

Chelsea flower show last week

I have really struggled thought out this project where i have enjoyed it but not having a clue where to start or even end. i found i was trying to design a flower which made it complicated so i simplified it where i designed a poster for next years Chelsea Flower Show
so basicly i looked at loads of different artists, old and modern, showing different stlye that would help me get ideas for my project
i found that looking at artists like ~Patrick Calfield (pop artist) influenced me the most where the bold and bright but pastel colours really helped my work to be its best but it was also influenced by other artist.
i came up with a range of thumbnails showing quick ideas, i found it heard to get the quick dodos on photoshop, as what works on paper doesn't necessarily work on a computer.
some of then did work but needed improving this is the one i came up with and improved

i really like this design
it just needed that extra thing,
it want quiet finished and to
the best of its ability

i then improved it to have
move negative space with
the design i really like this
but i know it needed
something more

i then improved these designs and
showed people around my class
they gave me advice to inprove it more
this is what i had right now

i then came up with these 2 which
so far are the best and are being
changed slightly to be my finals
both showing something different
possitive space and negative space

Easter Holidays

Over the Easter Holiday i attended the Easter school at UCA, Canterbury.
It was a four day event split into 2 sets of days - day 1 and 2 - 2D, Day 3 and 4 - 3D
On the first day i attended was life drawing, which i was feeling a bit worried about, as i was not very good, but luckily my stuff turned out really good even though they are a bit abstract, throughout the 2 days we experimented in loads of different medias.
All of my outcomes turned out really well, they all really worked with the different medias.
On the 3 and 4th doing 3D i found it more fun than the first 2 days as it was more hands on and experimenting with with something that i had not really done before, over the 2 days it became a challenge and a competition to not brake your egg. with only using paper to protect it, it was harder than i thought it would be.
i enjoyed the Easter school and i hope to go there in September to do a foundation year in Art and Design!!

primary research

Today i have done some primary research by walking into town with a camera, i took pictures of flowers that have just bloomed or have been done un-naturally, like in shops, you have a lovely bunch of flowers which would look lovely in your house but would normally only bloom in the summer. Also i bought some so i could do some drawings from them.
these are some of the pictures i took...

Websites

i am to look at different website to get ideas for my web design, i am mainly looking at more illustrated websites,

i found this website i think its pretty cool, i like the way its all a bit rugged and the type looks like its been dun by hand too, also the over laps, and the colour is really bright and stands out, i really like it. http://www.mariska.com/

i also found this website, i now this website isn't English but i just like the way is layed out and the way its all 3D http://www.shoebox.com.cn/

i found this website off of a friend http://www.roadkillzine.co.uk/craigscott.html
i really like this website, it leaves you looking at the detailed page, i like the was the type is hand designed

Diarmuid Gavin

As part of my project i am also going to look at gardeners/ designers
i have come up with Diarmuid Gavin, who also attended the Chelsea flower show but in 2008 he came up with a idea that got him a medal.
i have found pictures of the garden and i really like them, it would be something i would have in my garden if it was big enough.

Proposal

Section 1
For my FMP (Final Major Project) I m going to choose a flower for the 2011, Chelsea Flower Show, in London and then take the flower and create the poster as well as many other advertisements. I hope to design something suitable for the age range as well as producing a design that is catchy and stands out. Once I design the poster I will illustrate other materials to help advertise the Chelsea Flower, such as: leaflets, banners, bags, umbrellas bags tickets badges even bracelets as well as many more.

Section 2

I’m going to start the project researching into the Chelsea Flower Show, looking at the history of the location, and the people who run the show and even the flowers. I’m also going to look into a range of artists, modern and historical to see what would suit my design more such as, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Van Goth, Sue Bartlett, Lucy Orchard, Nick Schlee and even Paul Wright, which all are artist, but use different medias, in their work and for historical artist. On the 26th March I’m going to London to visit the natural history museum the history museum and the science museum and even the V&A, where I’m sure to find really interesting historic artists as well as looking at Georgia O’Keepe and Mrs Delaney, I’m also going to look into Botanical Illustration, which is what the Chelsea flower show use every year. I will also look into Garden designs as these might give me ideas how to present my ideas or even which flowers to use I know already I need to find a flower that’s summery, bright and beautiful, like a rose or a daisy but more interesting, I’m going to ask the public (using a questionnaire) if they have been? I have they heard of the Chelsea Flower show?
I’m going to do research in the LRC, to see if there is any information on the Chelsea Flower Show as well as talking to the Floristry course in the college to get idea on the flowers, which I could use but first and foremost I’m going to contact the Chelsea flower show to see if they have pictures of the current flowers used though out the years as well as looking on the Chelsea flower show website (also creating a bibliography as I go). I have also booked tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show on the 25th May 2010 so I can take loads of pictures and do loads of drawings, as well as even talking to some people doing the Chelsea flower show and even the people that run it ever year!

Section 3

My first stage will be producing an illustration of a flower I will experiment with a range of different medias and even in the way I use the medias, showing different techniques, showing step by step as I go to different medias and especially with medias I have never used before.
I’m going to come up with a time scale so I have everything done by the finishing date:
Week 1 – Paper Work
Week 2 – Research into Chelsea Flower Show (as well as a trip to London for research)
Week 3 – Research into Artists
Week 4 – Experimental Work
Week 5 – Design Ideas
Week 6 – Develop Ideas
Week 7 – Develop Ideas
Week 8 – Final Outcome
Week 9 – Printing Company
Week 10 – Make sure it’s all completed

Section 4
Once my design is completed, I’m going to send it to Chelsea to see what they think of my outcome and to also gain feedback. I am also going to create a daily log to review my project. I will also check with class mates on my project and also to help expand my ideas to make sure my design turn out as well as possible and to the best if my ability. Thought out the project I will also be doing class crit where I will be evaluating peoples work as well as people evaluating mine, peer evaluation, as part of the brief I have to have people look at my project and evaluate it in detail, and along the way I’m going to do a tutors review which my tutor will make shore I’m on the right trace and make shore I now where to go next, as well as giving a advice where to go next. Once I come up with my final I need to research into printing prices, to get my design and my booklet printed. I also need to research into the type of paper and even the size of the booklets.

Monday, 15 March 2010

i have created my design onto
different advertisements to
promote the V&A more
i have just started my FMP (final major project)
i am looking at doing Chelsea flower show, each year they have a new flower and have loads of booklets or information advertising the Chelsea Flower Show.
Im really looking forward to designing the new flower and after that design, the booklet as well as i could design a flier, flag or even a website, i have leaft it so open i could literally design anything for Chelsea Flower Show.
i am slightly worried how its going to turn out but i will have a go.

This is there logo
its going to be hard to design something that stands out and goes with this logo
as the logo is quite old looking as it is aimed at adults.

Narrative

My current project is narrative making
which is basically descriptive text that you can imagine from
i basically have to create the images for the text.

i choose to illustrate a kids book called
'Blot and Og's monster party'

to start of project experimenting with media, some thtat i
have used before and a few i haven't,
i used many basic medias
like
>charcole
>watercolours
>Acrilycs
>oil pastels
>ink
>pens
>pencils
>different matericals like
-cottonwool
-old pair of trousers
-rapping parper, ect.
i also used materical that i had never used before like
Meths
Bleach
Turps

these 3 liquesdes when added to certain materials it
leaves an affect that is really good and affective

i created many A3 sheets on the different medias, this
is what i will be using for my final or even designs

when i had it in my mind how i would do it, it would never of turned
out how my final looks, i was aiming for mixed media, which i have
stuck with throughout my project. looking at different artist cultures,
and periods in time, things like Greek myths, dan Fern and aswell as
my artist Charles Fuge and many more.

i have come to the end of my project TOMORROW
so today its just a matter of getting everthing finished and finalised.

these are my images so far
